Personal Statement
A creative and self-motivated HND graduate with strong
programming skills in C/C++ and Delphi, but able to diversify
into other disciplines such as networking, hardware, and support.
Computing skills are supported by previous experience in
commercial and educational environments.
My objectives for the year include learning Java and Visual Basic; developing skills in 32-bit Delphi database techniques, and Microsoft Access techniques.
Current Status
Continuing with part time job at Furness College. Set up own business
January 1999 focusing mostly on software training, configuration and troubleshooting,
and programming.

Career Achievements
Lecturer Furness College Sept 1997-present
Taught C++ programming to City and Guilds Level 2. Developed course notes
and delivered lectures to students. Provided worked exercises for students and
was responsible for C&G assessments and written exam.
Provided learning support to a HND student with special learning needs in databases and C++ programming.
Currently teaching hardware installation and systems analysis to HND level, and will be teaching RSA Internet and C++ in the near future.
Project Assistant VSEL Armaments Division Jan 1994 - Aug 1994
Assisted the AS90 howitzer project team in maintaining the production schedule
using PC-based spreadsheets and Artemis computer. Provided management
reports using Microsoft Project.
Developed Paradox database system using Paradox Application Language to support the production schedule during the changes in implementation of Artemis systems.
Contracts Assistant VSEL Fleet Support Division Sept 1987 - Jan 1994
Implemented a reporting system using PC-based database and spreadsheet packages.
Applications were developed using Paradox databases and Paradox Application
Language. Utilised the system to provide management reports on the divisions
commercial activities. The system was used by management throughout the Division
to monitor current activities and work-in-progress.
Administered spare gear contracts and tenders for the Royal Navy and other commercial
clients.

HND Computing with 11 distinctions and 4 merits. Second year project
was a Delphi application for producing flow charts and other diagrams. Developed
with the aid of Yourdon systems analysis techniques.
Received Distinctions in project; programming; advanced programming; databases (MS Access was the software of choice); Human Computer Interaction (HCI); networking and communications; practical installation/maintenance; software packages; operating systems; computer architecture; microcontroller systems.
Received Merits in systems analysis; management; French; mathematics for engineering.

mark - Distinction). Included a distinction in equivalent to 'A' level mathematics.

Computing. Interested in all aspects of IT, but especially enjoys programming. Self taught Basic (various dialects from ages 1983 onwards), C, C++ (DOS and Windows and OWL), and Delphi. Currently interested in developing software for wargamers and applications within martial arts. Also maintains a personal website (you're reading it!!) and keeps up to date by reading various magazines.
Military history and wargaming, especially 16th Century Japanese history.
Elected chairman of Furness Astronomical Society 1997-present.
Creative writing. I am currently enrolled on a home study writing course with the Writers Bureau in Manchester and have had work successfully published.
